M.Sc. Programs & Tracks
The programs at the GSN provide basic and individual teaching concepts for Master's students with backgrounds in neuroscience, as well as students from related fields in the life sciences.
Originally Supported by the Elite Network of Bavaria
Both Master's programs affiliated with the GSN were originally established with support from the Elite Network of Bavaria (ENB), a flagship initiative launched by the Bavarian state government to foster outstanding, research-oriented teaching programs at the state's leading universities. Designed according to the Bologna principles, ENB programs are intended for highly qualified students seeking an academically demanding, structured education well beyond standard degree requirements. This early recognition placed the Master's programs among an elite cohort of teaching initiatives in Bavaria from the outset, and the standards established during that period continue to shape the program today – from its research-intensive curriculum to its emphasis on individual mentoring and academic rigour.
Collaborations with other programs
In addition to these integrated and associated degree programs, GSN closely collaborates with other M.Sc. courses of study to offer specialized training.
An example is the joint project between LMU Faculty of Medicine and TUM School of Medicine and Health - the Munich Neuroanatomy Course - an exclusive opportunity for M.Sc. and Ph.D. students at the GSN and M.Sc. Biomedical Neuroscience students at TUM to gain highly specialized knowledge and connect with experts in the field. In addition to its theoretical foundations lectures, the practical human brain dissection day is a rare occasion to study the brain hands-on and is praised as an invaluable experience.
