The decline of democracy, fascism, the climate crisis, species extinction, housing shortages, war, the energy crisis, migration—our world is on the brink of collapse. Those who want to do something about it may be able to provide some relief here and there. But real, effective solutions? Where are they to come from, given that the crises are becoming ever more numerous?
The good news is that there is one central starting point where change can help with almost all problems: for decades, our economic policy has been following a faulty compass. As a result, it is driving us deeper and deeper into the crises of our time – ecological, social, political. Two people want to replace this compass. Purpose tells the story of the challenges they face in doing so.
Following the film screening, there will be a discussion with author and producer Martin Ötting, during which you are cordially invited to ask questions.
Purpose poses the central question of our time: What purpose and goal do our economic systems pursue? And how can we change that? The film follows two people who are developing groundbreaking political projects to shift the focus of our economic systems away from pure GDP growth and toward the well-being of people and the planet.
