Redirects
If you have an existing website in Fiona that is now being relaunched in FirstSpirit, your website’s URL will change as part of this process (see also domain concept). You can set up one or more redirects from your website’s previous URL to the new URL in FirstSpirit.
Users who have memorized the previous URL or saved it as a bookmark will be automatically redirected to the new site. Even in situations where you cannot immediately provide the new URL (e.g., printed flyers), the old URLs listed there will still redirect users to the new website. The new URL will also appear in the browser address bar.
Redirects should only be used as a temporary solution.
Request
The vast majority of all LMU websites are hosted on the central server cluster. Department VI.5 Internet Services can set up redirects for these web pages. Typically, you should submit the desired redirects in a structured format as part of the go-live request for a new website.
If you need more than 5 redirects, please include them in your request in this redirect table (XLSX, 17 KB).
A maximum of 15 redirects can be generated.
Special cases
- Faculty-owned web servers
- If your website is hosted on your faculty's own web servers, the IT service teams at the faculty level should set up the redirects.
- lmu.de
- If you need a redirect to the lmu.de main website, you must request it directly from the LMU Hostmaster.
Short URLs
A short URL is a shortened version of a URL that makes otherwise long paths easier to remember and more user-friendly. For example, you might need a custom URL or email address for an event.
Request
Depending on the type of short URL required, it may be generated by your website's project administrator. Otherwise, you must contact the LMU Hostmaster:
- URLs within your organization's domain
- If you would like a short URL within a FirstSpirit project that specifies the domain (e.g., www.myfaculty.lmu.de), your project administrator can set this up for you. If necessary, this person will confer with Department VI.5 Internet Services.
- Independent domain
(e.g., lmu.de) - Please contact the LMU Hostmaster directly to determine whether your desired URL—or, if applicable, email address—is available. If necessary, the Hostmaster will coordinate the technical implementation with Department VI.5 Internet Services.
