Central FirstSpirit Support at LMU

The Internet Services Unit VI.5 supports and advises over 1,000 editors in their work with the FirstSpirit and Fiona WCMS systems and provides technical support for numerous LMU websites.

Our tasks range from project management for relaunches and new website set-up to support, consulting, and training, as well as assistance with questions regarding conception, technology, design, and new feature requirements. In addition, we develop new functions, coordinate technical operations and the further development of the systems, as well as implement the LMU corporate design on the web.

We work closely with all LMU faculties, Press and Communications, all LMU editors, and are also in close contact with project administrators and coordinators at the faculty level.

LMU organizational units

Larger organizational units at LMU have their own FirstSpirit web projects, in which all websites for that area are managed. Project administrators and coordinators are the main contact point for editors.

The project administrator handles the technical and administrative tasks within a web project. In doing so, this person works closely with the technical team of Division VI.5 Internet Services. As a rule, there is one person per web project who fulfills this role.

Tasks:

  • User management throughout the entire web project.
  • Approving requests for new websites.
  • Assigning editing rights for websites.
  • Making adjustments to the special pages "News" and "People."
  • Uploading or deleting multiple images and documents in the MediaMaster.
  • Answering technical questions regarding the use of FirstSpirit.
  • Making adjustments in SiteArchitect and ServerManager, as needed.

Special case: Interdepartmental projects
In so-called "interdepartmental projects" that are not directly assigned to an organizational unit, the technical and administrative tasks are handled by Division VI.5 Internet Services.

The project coordinator is responsible for coordinating the implementation of websites for the entire web project. This role can be combined with that of project administration—but does not have to be.

Tasks:

  • Primary point of contact for the faculty; routing inquiries within the institution.
  • Coordinating the entire relaunch project within the faculty/institution with the relevant content providers (e.g., departments, program coordinators, etc.), as well as with internal faculty decision-makers.
  • Coordinating content analysis, content strategy, and information architecture within the web project and the associated websites.
  • Responsibility for content regarding accessibility, SEO optimization, and accurate translations.
  • Compilation of requests and inquiries from editors and forwarding to Division VI.5 Internet Services.

Please note that this table is continuously updated. Projects marked with * have a custom rights policy.

  • Responsible for content, including accessibility, SEO optimization, and accurate translations.

Department VI.5 Internet Services handles project administration tasks for websites within umbrella projects.

FAQ

To become a FirstSpirit editor, the first step is to contact your project administrator or project coordinator. They will work with you to determine the best way to train you on the websites for your organizational unit.

In any case, we recommend that you participate in our basic training course.

Please use our resources:

1) WCMS Wiki

We've compiled all the important features, frequently asked questions, and common challenges for you in our WCMS Wiki.

The WCMS Wiki is password-protected on Bayerncollab (Confluence). If you have not used this platform before, you must activate your account for the platform before logging in for the first time.
To do so, log in to your LMU user account and agree to the terms of use under the "Confluence (Bayerncollab)" tile. Then log in to the WCMS Wiki using your LMU username.

2) FirstSpirit Community

Post your question in the FirstSpirit Community, where your colleagues at LMU and the central support team will be happy to assist you.

3) Contact point at your faculty

In addition, please feel free to contact the project administrator/project coordinator at your organizational unit, which can usually provide you with straightforward assistance on-site.

You can find general information about the process of a website relaunch or how to request a new website under Milestones.

All LMU organizations and departments can switch from CMS Fiona CMS to WCMS FirstSpirit.

You can find information about the individual steps under Milestones and under CMS Fiona.

Please contact the project administrator/project coordinator at your organizational unit. They have sole authority to determine who is granted access to the websites in their respective project.

Please contact the relevant project administrator or project coordinator for the respective website.

All degree programs are listed on the central lmu.de website. Your faculty can provide links to this centralized information.

If you would like to request changes to the program description, please contact Dr. Hünemörder at the Central Academic Office for Bachelor and Master programs, and Natalie Horky at the MZL for education degrees.

Department VI.5 Internet Services is constantly working to improve FirstSpirit at LMU. If you have any suggestions for improvements, proceed as follows:

  • First, speak with your organization's project administrator/coordinatior.
  • Briefly present the suggestion in the FirstSpirit Community to see if a workable solution already exists, or if others would welcome this suggestion for improvement. The more editors that would like to see the same improvement, the higher the priority can be given to implementing the change.
  • Ask your project administrator to fill out the form for a Feature Request.
