Tools and integrations

Around the WCMS FirstSpirit, there are several integrations and tools to help you design your web presence effectively.

Typical use cases

Although registrations and bookings can also be implemented via a traditional web form (see more below) where you collect the registrant’s data in a structured way and receive it via email, there are some disadvantages:

In most cases, this approach involves a lot of manual administrative work and follow-up processing of each incoming email.

A more practical and modern option for handling registrations and bookings is the LMU-licensed tool Anny, through which almost any type of booking and registration can be managed.

Examples:

  • Event registration with attendee list and waitlist, automated email delivery
  • Booking of company vehicles, teaching materials
  • Booking of desks in reading rooms, labs, or practice rooms
  • Booking of office hours with professors

Although newsletter sign-ups can also be handled by email or a web form (where you collect registrant data in a structured way and receive it via email) this approach often entails significant manual administrative work and follow‑up processing.

We therefore recommend the tool Mailman, offered by the LRZ, which provides specialized newsletter functionality.

You can integrate publications directly into the "Standard Content" module as formatted text or link to existing publication databases.

If you add your publications to the university library's OpenAccess, they can be automatically loaded onto a page and are therefore always up to date.

Would you like to collect data on the usage of your website? The Matomo tool is a good option for this.

Tools Integrated into FirstSpirit

These tools are integrated directly into FirstSpirit as paragraph modules or functions.

Anny is an appointment and resource booking tool. It can be used, for example, for event registrations, room bookings, or other resources such as company cars or office hours with professors. It offers convenient features like registration/booking management, waitlists, payment functions, and much more.

Once you’ve created a booking in Anny, you can integrate it into FirstSpirit via a paragraph module so that it is displayed as part of the website.

For simple forms, such as contact forms, FirstSpirit offers the form manager Monday Webforms.

Please also take note of the requirements and guidelines from the legal department.

For simple forms, we are happy to create the initial version for you. Please send us the following information:

  • The information that should be included in the form, including which fields are required, etc.
  • The email address to which the form should be sent
  • Any data protection declaration or other legal notices that should be included in the form

DeepL is an online service for machine translations.

For many paragraph modules and datasets in FirstSpirit, you can use the convenient "Translation Studio" translation tool with DeepL integration. This allows for quick and easy translation during editorial work.

If you use the university library's Open Access service for your publications, you can automatically integrate your publications into your personal contact page or a general detail page in FirstSpirit.

Supplementary Tools

To create a good web presence, we offer additional tools alongside FirstSpirit.

Mailman for Newsletters and Mailing Lists

Free of charge, available to all LMU institutions, and recommended by the LMU data protection officer, the mailing tool Mailman from LRZ is offered. Mailman works with mailing lists and, depending on the configuration, can also be used purely as a newsletter tool.

  • Detailed information, tips, and recommendations for GDPR-compliant use of Mailman at LMU can be found in the Service Portal
  • Request your mailing list directly from LRZ and configure it according to your needs.
  • Then link to the mailing list from your website.
  • Please note that we do not provide support for the configuration and operation of Mailman!

Matomo – Web Analytics

Matomo is an open-source web analytics tool. It enables data protection-compliant analysis of websites.
