ERC Grants

The European Research Council (ERC) promotes frontier research by awarding multi-million grants to outstanding researchers for projects of a pioneering nature.

Since the first call for proposals in 2007, LMU researchers have always been very successful in the ERC’s highly competitive selection process. In the evaluation process the scientific excellence of the applicants and the innovative character of the projects is assessed.

ERC Synergy Grants

ERC Synergy Grants (up to €14 million euros for a max. of six years) are awarded to teams of two to four excellent researchers from all disciplines, whose research projects have a transformative character and are only feasible on the basis of intensive collaboration in (interdisciplinary) research teams.

The following researchers have received ERC Synergy Grants at LMU to date:

ERC Advanced Grants

ERC Advanced Grants (up to € 3.5 million euros for a max. of five years) are awarded for innovative projects proposed by outstanding established researchers from all disciplines, whose highly innovative research promises to lead to significant advances in the current state of the art and opens new horizons.

The following researchers have been awarded ERC Advanced Grants at LMU to date:

ERC Consolidator Grants

ERC Consolidator Grants (up to €3 million euros for a max. of five years) are intended to fund innovative projects proposed by outstanding mid-career researchers from all disciplines, whose own independent research group is in the consolidation phase.

The following researchers have been awarded ERC Consolidator Grants at LMU to date:

ERC Starting Grants

ERC Starting Grants (up to €2.5 million euros for a max. of five years) are awarded for innovative projects proposed by outstanding early-career researchers from all disciplines, who wish to set up or expand their own research groups in Europe.

The following researchers have received ERC Starting Grants at LMU to date:

ERC Proof of Concept Grants

ERC Proof of Concept Grants provide extra funding for researchers who have already received an ERC Grant. They are intended to permit the recipient to test whether an idea that resulted from the preious ERC-funded project can be translated into a product or service. These awards are thus designed to enable ERC grantees to translate research results into practical applications (funding amount: 150 000 euros, period: 18 months).

The following researchers have already received an ERC Proof of Concept Grant at LMU:

LMU participation as partner in an ERC project

* Contract signed with LMU as Host Institution, but ERC Grantee has left LMU in the meantime

** ERC Grantee was not yet at LMU when the grant was awarded.
