LMUcard for Students (StudentID). The LMUcard is the LMU‘s multifunctional chip card.

Issuing of the LMUcard

The issuing takes place in two steps:

  1. Online-request
  2. In-person-pickup or via mail to your semester address

Online-request

  • You can request the LMUcard online on your LMU-Benutzerkonto .
  • You will have the possibility to upload a photo during the ordering process. Please pay attention to the guidlines for the photo! The guidlines will be listed in the online-ordering process and oriantates itself on the specifications of the Bundesdruckerei (Foto-Mustertafel PDF).
  • Once the card application has been entered, we will check all data as well as the compliancy to follow the guidelines for the photo (see above).
  • If you want to check the processing status of your card application, please log into the LMU-Portal with your LMU-User ID and select the link „LMUcard“ in your user account. In order to reduce wait times on site we recommend to only pick up your card once the application status is labeled „approved“. In principle the LMUcard can be picked up immediately after requesting it.

Mail to your semester address

To protect the employees and student of LMU, the IT-Servicedesk is accessible only after appointment (Link zum annyconnect).

New Students could request a LMUcards to be issued validated via mail to your semester address.

If you have already requested a LMUcard, please abort the request and start over. Chose delivery to semester address in delivery options. Your semester address needs to be a valid german address.

Functions

  • The LMUcard for students, with the declaration of validity on the validity strip, identifies you as a student of the LMU.
  • Detailed information about your course of studies, semester year etc. will not be printed on the new LMUcard due to space limitations. You can refer back to your current matriculation certificate if this information is needed as proof. You can download the certificate here: Online-Selbstbedienungsfunktionen für LMU-Studierende.

  • With the LMUcard you are able to pay cashfree at all cafeterias, StuBistroMensas (cafeterias), StuCafes, StuLounges, and at most Espresso-Bars as well as at many drink, snack and ice cream vending machines which are serviced by the Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern.
  • Copiers, scanners and printers are equipped with a suitable card reader in different partitions of the library.
  • You can recharge your LMUcard at the charging stations of the Studierendenwerk.
  • The charging stations are located at all cafeterias and self service cafeteiras oft he Studierendenwerk.
  • If you already own a cafeteria card from the Studierendenwerk, you can return it at one of the Studierendenwerk‘s information points and have your credit balance transferred to the new LMUcard.

  • The LMUcard is valid as a library ID for the University Library as well as the Bavarian State Library
  • The 12-digit identification number for the library as well as the pick up number is printed on the backside of the card.
  • You will recieve a new library number with the issuing of the LMUcard.
  • If available, your previous library account will be automatically transferred to the new card. The old library ID will become invalid as soon as your LMUcard is validated.
  • You can find additional information regarding the useage as a library card at the university library.

  • The MVV-Logo with the validity indication for the semester ticket will be added during the validation.
  • The LMUcard, combined with an official photo ID for the stated period of validity, serves as an authorization to use all means of transportation (2nd class) from the Verbundverkehr in the entire MVV-Network system from Monday to Friday between 6 pm and 6 am of the following day (including the night lines) as well as all day on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
  • In addition you can purchase the „IsarCard Semester“ at the sales locations of the MVV. This a ticket which is valid for the period of one semeter and in combination with an official photo ID authorizes the use of all authroized forms of transportation (2nd class) from the Verbundverkehr in the entire MVV-Network system.
  • Additional information about the MVV-Semesterticket can be found on the website of the MVV.

  • The LMUcard is a multifunctional chip card. All personal data which is saved on the chip card is encrypted and proctected from unauthorized access.
  • Detailed information about data protection and data usage will be listed during the online request of the LMUcard.

Data protection information

The LMUcard for students (student ID) is a multifunctional chip card with the following functions

  • Identity card as student ID
  • MVV ticket (Semesterticket Basis)
  • Cashless payment in the catering establishments of the Studierendenwerk, as well as printers, scanners and copiers that are compatible with the payment system.
  • Library card for the University Library and the Bavarian State Library (Bayerische Staatsbibliothek)

The card contains an optically rewritable validation strip on which information on validity, the semester ticket and the faculty are indicated. To update the validity, the LMUcard must be validated by the cardholders. Information on this and the other functions of the LMUcard will be published at www.lmu.de/studierendenausweis.

The LMUcard is designed to meet the requirements of the ISIC’s International Student Card and includes the same master data as required by the students there.

The right to issue the LMUcard follows from the right to self-government of the University of Munich in terms of its organisational right (Article 12(1) of the BayHSchG). According to § 6(3) of the enrolment, feedback and exmatriculation statutes of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, the LMUcard is an optional student card issued on application and as such. The application and use is voluntary.

The purpose of data processing is the creation and use of the LMUcard as a multifunctional chip card. By means of LMUcard, students can prove their enrolment (Article 42(2) of the BayHSchG), their student status and thus their membership to the University of Munich and to one of their faculties in legal dealings — i.e. within the university and its institutions and vis-à-vis third parties — (Art. 11(1) BayHSchG, Art. 17(1) sentence 1 BayHSchG, Art. 27(2) BayHSchG). On the other hand, it is possible to use as a library card and canteen card and for the semester ticket

    We process your data in accordance with and on the basis of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Bavarian Data Protection Act (BayDSG) and the other applicable data protection regulations.

    In order to enable the functions of the LMUcard, the following personal data are stored on the card:

The stored data is access-protected and can only be read with appropriately configured card readers. The use of the stored data is subject to the relevant legal requirements, in particular regarding data protection and data security. As part of the LMUcard administration, the following additional data will be stored on servers of the LMU under the administration of Department VI and taking into account the appropriate technical and organizational security measures:

  • Data on cards requested (date of application data and the above data)
  • Data on already issued cards

The data is required for the use and security of the LMUcard.

Uploading a photo is voluntary. Acceptance as an international student card analogous to ISIC is usually only given with a photo.

The processing of academic degrees and titles is carried out as part of the performance of the university’s public tasks, insofar as the processing is required by law or the title is part of the name. In addition, the imprint is voluntary.

Signing on the student card is a valid feature and serves the protection of abuse. The data processing takes place in order to fulfil a public task in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e GDPR in conjunction with Art. 4 para. 1 BayDSG. The signature also serves to personalise and accept legal transactions. Without signature, acceptance as an international student card is also limited or not given in the same way as ISIC.

The data is processed on internal data processing systems. Within the LMU, only those persons or areas that need it for the fulfilment of the aforementioned processing purposes will have access to personal data. The relevant persons are subject to data secrecy pursuant to Art. 11 BayDSG.

Unauthorised disclosure of the collected and processed data to third parties, international organisations or a third country will not take place.

The stored data will be processed for the purpose of creating the LMUcard as long as and to the extent necessary (Art. 4 para. 1 BayDSG) or consent.

After exmatriculation or after the return of the LMUcard, the data in question will be deleted immediately from the corresponding systems, provided and insofar as there are no statutory retention obligations (e.g. with regard to student data pursuant to Art. 6 (1) BayArchivG) or other processing purposes (e.g. Art. 6 para. 2 BayDSG). This also applies to the data stored at the Studierendenwerk, the University Library and the Bavarian State Library.

The uploaded photo will be processed exclusively for the creation of the LMUcard and will be deleted seven days after the LMUcard has been handed over or after cancellation of the card application or upon revocation. The photo print is checked when the LMUcard is issued to the authorised person. The printing of academic degrees and titles is voluntary, insofar as the data processing is not carried out by law.

Insofar as data processing is based on consent, the deletion takes place with the withdrawal of consent.

After returning the LMUcard, the card will be destroyed in compliance with data protection.
