Song recital with Julian Prégardien & Kristian Bezuidenhout
LMU’s Institute of Musicology is opening its doors for a stand-out concert. After his acclaimed Winterreise (Winter Journey) last November, Schubert tenor Julian Prégardien returns to the Great Aula to sing Schubert’s other seminal cycle: Die schöne Müllerin (The Fair Maid of the Mill). On this occasion, he will be accompanied by pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout, once again playing the institute’s grand piano with downstriking action, built by Nannette Streicher in Vienna in 1825.
Following a brief introduction to the work, the first part of the concert will focus on the origins of Wilhelm Müller’s Fair Maid of the Mill in a playful arrangement crafted by Julian Prégardien and baritone Johannes Held. Early scorings by Felix Mendelssohn and Fanny Hensel and by Ludwig Berger will be played. The second part will be devoted to Franz Schubert’s emotional cycle The Fair Maid of the Mill, which ends with the tragic death of the miller’s apprentice.
Admission is free. Donations are welcome. For more information, please visit the Musicology website.
