Bella Merlin tells the story of celebrated actress Tilly Wedekind, who was increasingly co-opted by Frank Wedekind. Frank was part of the circle that formed around Artur Kutscher, and thus part of the network from which theater studies took shape in Munich. Kutscher managed Wedekind’s estate and remained in contact with Tilly for a long time, even after Frank’s death.
In a setting reminiscent of a circus ring, decked out with a lute, two puppets, a circus ball and a touch of magic, Tilly No-Body performs a balancing act between the grotesque and the sublime, between comedy and tragedy, teetering toward the Weimar Republic to the rhythm of a waltz.
