“Making Books from Books” – Exhibition of upcycled artworks by art education students at the “Vier-Augen-Galerie”

“Is a book a pile of dead letters? No, a sack full of seeds!” (André Gide)

People today live in a world of overproduction. There is too much of so many things, and the mountains of waste from rapid consumption are growing. In response, art education students explored the question of how more sustainable works can be created in the artistic field of bookbinding. Their deliberations led to the idea of making books out of books: New books were bound from existing books, magazines and newspapers. Content was either retained or reworked through additions, overpainting and distortion.

For the exhibition opening at 4 p.m. on 9 November 2026, the students have extended an open invitation to a presentation of their works.

The event is part of LMU Sustainability Week, which takes place from 9-13 November 2026 at various LMU locations.

Further information can be found in the LMU Sustainability Week program.
