Withdrawing from your studies

Are you experiencing study-related problems, doubting your choice of subject and perhaps even considering dropping out? These counseling services and web addresses will help you analyze your study doubts in more detail and get appropriate support.

Personal counseling

The reasons behind such thoughts can be complex. Perhaps the study program itself is different in terms of content to what you had originally expected. Maybe you feel you haven't kept up from a performance perspective. Perhaps you're experiencing financial difficulties, personal problems or are unclear about your job prospects.

The counseling services and links on the German page should help you understand where your concerns might be coming from and seek out appropriate support. But don't forget you can also reach out to us — we’re always on your side.

Both the Central Student Advisory Office and LMU Academic Counseling should be your first point of contact for individual consultations.

Group events on study doubts

Winter semester

Every winter semester, the LMU Central Student Advisory Office (Zentrale Studienberatung der LMU, or ZSB), together with the Catholic University Community (KHG) and the Protestant Student Community (ESG), run a workshop entitled "Studienabbruch? — Lebensaufbruch!" (Break up? Break out!), which is aimed at students from the first semester onwards who are no longer sure as to whether to continue studying. Within the workshop we develop decision-making strategies together, address life perspectives and rediscover hidden sources of energy.

Summer semester

In the summer semester, the ZSB, KHG and ESG offer a group event for doubting students. Here, and in several small groups, we address individual study issues and develop solution-oriented strategies together.
