SARS-CoV-2: current situation for international internships

Here, you'll find important travel and safety information concerning international internships during the academic year 2020/21.

Travel information and warnings

Safety and health matter most — and your international internship is no different. That's why it's essential that you take the time — in advance of your trip — to find out about the conditions in your host country via the Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) website.

Here, you can find travel information concerning every country and find out which of them currently have travel warnings. You can also refer to:

Travel warnings

If the Federal Foreign Office issues a travel warning for your destination country, you should follow these instructions:

  • Please consider carefully whether you really want to begin your stay at this point in time. Contact us and your program representative about the possibility of postponing your foreign exchange: prakika.s-a@lmu.de.
  • Please take into account that in some countries several areas of life have been severely affected by precautionary measures. These have impacted social life, safety, care, and the health system among other things.
  • International air traffic and rail traffic are running a restricted service too. Should the situation in the region around your destination suddenly deteriorate, you should be aware that there may not be sufficient options to travel back home.
  • If you enter an area for which the Federal Foreign Office has issued a warning, you do so at your own risk. LMU assumes no responsibility whatsoever for the consequences of such a decision.

Insurance coverage

Our scholarship programs offer no insurance coverage.

  • Therefore, be sure to find out which insurances you need and what your current insurances cover.
  • In addition to taking out health insurance that is valid abroad, a personal liability and accident insurance is obligatory when participating in the Erasmus+ Traineeship Programme.
  • Be sure to check whether your international health insurance and — perhaps as well — your personal liability, travel, accident or other insurances become void if the Federal Foreign Office has issued a travel warning.
  • You can also take out an insurance policy through DAAD which, alongside health insurance, covers accident-, personal liability- and luggage insurances. Other insurance providers also offer such combined insurance policies.
  • We are not at liberty to advise you on insurance coverage nor provide any information.

While in the host country

  • Check with your host institution for emergency phone numbers and where to go if you experience any difficulties.
  • If you should face problems abroad or want/need to cancel your Erasmus+ stay because the level of risk has changed and a travel warning has been issued by the Federal Foreign Office, please contact your local supervisors immediately and inform us: praktika.s-a@lmu.de.
