Virtual mobility

LMU Munich has a long history of sending and receiving students to and from partner universities all around the world. We now offer opportunities to study virtually at our partner universities.

LERU virtual exchange

LMU Munich now enables students to take online courses from international partner universities and earn credits. This virtual exchange program is a joint initiative of several members of the League of European Research Universities, and is intended to allow students to gain international experience having to actually go abroad.

  • Gain international experience without having to travel
  • Choose from broader portfolio of modules
  • Develop digital & intercultural communication skills
  • Enjoy greater flexibility: learn at any time, anywhere
  • Virtual exchange offers students more choice – of medium, subjects and instructors

LMU Munich and the partner organizations offer a variety of online courses. The subjects are accessible for students enrolled at one of the participating universities, granted they meet the requirements. The range of courses will be frequently updated so make sure to check back regularly.

  • University of Amsterdam

Registration process for LMU students

You’ve selected what you want to study? Now you can register by following these steps.

  • Do you meet the entry requirements for the course?
  • Do you have sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction at the time of application?
  • Does the course fit within your study schedule in terms of timetable and study load? Keep in mind that online courses take just as much time as regular courses. Check the exam date as well; it may not be in the same week as your regular program.

If you want the study credits and the grades for the virtual exchange course to count as part of your regular program, you need to get approval in advance from your study coordinator. We'd like to receive a confirmation of the permission from your study coordinator via email.

Fill in the Online application form and submit a motivation letter explaining why you are interested in taking the course and what you expect to learn it.
