EU projects

LMU has successfully participated in EU-funded programs in the fields of research and innovation for a long time. These include the European Universities Initiative and projects on the exchange of best practices and activities in political education (Key Actions 2 and 3). In this context, LMU can count on its extensive network of partner universities and excellent international contacts maintained by its lecturers and researchers.

Erasmus+ mobility network

Students can take advantage of the renowned European ERASMUS+ Program to spend a semester or two at one of our over 380 ERASMUS partner universities. The program also promotes the mobility of lecturers and university staff, and supports university cooperation in teaching and studying within and beyond Europe.

LMUexchange mobility network

LMU encourages and facilitates study abroad as exchange programs enable students, faculty and administrative staff to gain invaluable international experience.

• 20 extensive university cooperations and over 150 LMUexchange partnerships around the world make active scientific exchange in various disciplines and study-abroad experiences - including joint study programs - possible.
• The Munich International Summer University invites international students at all levels to attend exclusive courses and undertake short-term research projects in a broad variety of disciplines.
• LMU's international network is complemented by a multitude of cooperations and exchange activities within the faculties.

International alliances

LMU participates in several valuable alliances with other universities. These partnerships create international opportunities for students, researchers and staff, facilitate joint initiatives in research and teaching, and foster the adoption of best practices by university leaders.

• LMU has been actively involved in the League of European Research Universities (LERU) since its foundation in 2002. As an association of 24 leading European universities and a valued source of advice for European institutions and policy stakeholders, it ensures that higher education and research policies at the EU level are shaped in the interests of research-intensive universities.
• LMU is a founding member of the European University Association (EUA) which represents more than 800 universities and National Rectors' Conferences in 48 European countries.
• LMU is also a member of the Europaeum, a consortium of 17 leading European universities founded by Oxford University in 1992. The network provides developmental opportunities for academics and graduates by organizing international conferences, summer schools, and colloquia, and offering bursaries and a professional training program for doctoral students.

Academic centers and cultural organizations

As a central service provider for all state universities in Bavaria, the Bavarian Academic Centers (Bayerische Hochschulzentren) nurture international research and teaching contacts and promote student and academic exchange.

The British Council is the UK's international organization for cultural relations and educational opportunities. The Council acts as an important contact for cooperation spanning the fields of education, science, art and culture.
